New SC-SOM-2K and SC-Carrier-2K solutions for advanced display integration introduced

With the introduction of the SC-SOM-2K System-on-Module and the SC-Carrier-2K development board, a powerful platform for the evaluation and integration of LCD-TFT display controllers is presented. Both products offer comprehensive functionalities for developers who want to integrate high-resolution displays with LVDS or eDP interface into compact and efficient applications and set new standards in flexibility and user-friendliness.

SC-SOM-2K: Compact display control at a high level

The SC-SOM-2K is a compact system-on-module that is equipped with HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort 1.2 inputs and supports resolutions from 640×480 to 2560×1600. It offers both LVDS (up to 1920×1200) and eDP interfaces (up to 2560×1440/1600) with support for 6- and 8-bit color depths. In addition, the module supports I2C sensors (e.g. gyroscope for pivot, temperature or ambient light sensor) via the DDC/CI interface, eliminating the need for additional UART or USB connections. Power is supplied via a single +5V source, with all other voltages being generated onboard.

SC-Carrier-2K: Versatile evaluation platform

The SC-Carrier-2K complements the module as a comprehensive development platform. It offers HDMI and DisplayPort video inputs, an integrated USB programmer for firmware and EDID programming as well as a USB 2.0 hub for peripheral devices such as touch controllers. The platform supports single and dual channel LVDS displays (up to 1920×1200) with VESA and Open LDI data mapping as well as 2/4 lane EDP displays (up to 2560×1000). Other functions include an OSD keypad (4+1 buttons), dual status LEDs, a 3.5 mm audio socket for stereo output and integrated sensors (3-axis gyro, temperature). Power is supplied via a +12V source.

Programming and customization

Both products use the Compile-Free Display Adaption (CFD) toolkit for easy programming and customization. The programmer enables reliable USB-to-SPI/I2C communication for firmware updates and EDID configurations according to VESA standards. The user-friendly software allows developers to adapt the firmware to different displays without any programming knowledge, greatly simplifying the design and production process.

Standardized interface for 7″ and 10.1″ TFT displays

New ADB-100 adapter board standardizes LVDS interfaces for 7″ and 10.1″ TFT displays from different manufacturers – first series models with 1024×600 and 1280×800 resolution now available.

ADB-100 launches with 7″ and 10.1″ LVDS displays: Standardized interface for 1024×600 and 1280×800 now available

The ADB-100 is a compact, single-sided adapter board that makes 7″ and 10.1″ LCD TFT displays with LVDS interface controllable via a standardized board-to-wire interface. It generates all necessary LCD bias voltages (VGL, VGH, VCOM) from a single 3.3 V supply, integrates a powerful LED driver with up to 480 mA and 40 V output voltage as well as a standardized I²C touch controller interface. The circuit board is mounted directly on the back of the display, significantly reducing the integration effort. The first series products are now available: a 7″ display with 1024 × 600 pixels and a 10.1″ model with 1280 × 800 pixels.

Technical features of the ADB-100 at a glance:

  • LCD bias generation: Triple regulated outputs (positive/negative/VCOM) with adjustable switch-on sequence (tₕ₁, tₕ₂) – factory-adjusted to the respective panel.
  • LED backlight driver: Up to 480 mA, up to 40 V, dimming ratio 10,000:1 at 100 Hz PWM; operation with either +5 V or +12 V input voltage.
  • Standardized connectors for:
    • LVDS data and display supply
    • Backlight power supply and control (PWM/EN)
    • I²C touch controller (SDA, SCL, INT, Reset)
  • LVDS loop-through: Color depth and data mapping identical to the target panel.
  • Mechanics: Single-sided mounting, low profile, direct display rear mounting.

The ADB-100 is designed for industrial use and supports operating temperatures according to the display specification. The factory configuration of bias voltages and sequence timings ensures immediate plug-and-play operation without additional software or hardware adjustments. Further display sizes and resolutions are in preparation.

Our software

Improved scaler board design with customized software solutions

To enable the customer to adapt our hardware solutions autonomously and without software knowledge to the displays selected by him, we provide a software package which includes the following modules:

Data File Creator

This module creates the so-called panel data file from the specific panel timing,
backlight and power-on parameters.

Firmware Packer

The customer uses the firmware packer to create the new firmware from the panel data file and a scaler-specific base file.

Firmware programmer

This programming module is equally suitable for development and production and ensures VESA-compliant serial number assignment. The programming hardware used is an inexpensive USB-to-SPI bridge (< 20,- US$), which enables a programming time of less than 5 seconds.
